Sacramento Old Sacramento Historic District, 2nd & K Streets, CA 95814.
Old Sacramento is a 12-block neighborhood preserved between the river and the I-5 freeway as a state historic district. There are boutique shops including souvenirs, art, gifts, jewelry and home decor on the boardwalk set amongst Gold Rush-era buildings, restaurants, museums and the Sacramento River. Plenty of side streets loaded with two and three-story picturesque buildings from the old days make a fascinating walking tour. The waterfront is enjoying a resurgence with stores, public docks, excursion cruises, and waterfront restaurants.

Downtown Plaza, 4th & J Street, ca 95814.
The focal point of downtown is Downtown Plaza, reached from Old Sacramento through a pedestrian tunnel. You can find Macy, Century Theatre, Hard Rock Café and other stores and eateries on the open-air shopping environment.

California State Capitol
The California State Capitol was constructed at the end of the 18 century. Its architecture looks like Roman stype. This government building is used as the Governor’s office and the home of California Legislature.
Take a walk through the Capitol Park and there are over 400 exotic plants and trees from all over the world in the park. Two intriguing 20th century war memorials are also on the grounds.
The park is located downtown Sacramento at 10th and L Streets.

Sacramento also offers a lot of very nice bike trails. In one of the Sacbee article on Rails-To-Trails, it shows how we can use the light-rail to connect to different point of bike trails. For me, I think the most picturesque bike trail is from Nimbus Dam to Folsom Dam along the American River. We can park our cars at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery on Hazel just east of Highway 50. http://www.sacbee.com/content/travel/outdoors/story/13807219p-14648406c.html

People use the Natoma lake to picnic, kayaking, swimming, and sailing. The park is next to the California State University Aquatic Center. Take Highway 50 and exit from North Hazel, the park is on your right.

In Spring, Summer and Autumn, Folsom lake is a very good place for boating, swimming, and picnic.
